Many thanks to all you who entered this year's competition, and congratulations to the three winners.
A remarkable shot of the old town in Nice won Justin Hannaford the first prize.Coincidentally, Justin, who is from Adelaide, Australia, took the photo while on a trip to Nice, which he won in a short-story competition. An investment banker by day, Justin has had a few photos published but says it would be his dream to work full-time as a professional photographer.
He fulfilled this year's competition brief to produce an outstanding image that managed to capture the essence of a destination. His prize is a commission, worth £3,000, to photograph a foreign destination for one of Insight Guide's prestigious new guidebooks.
Adam Patterson won the second prize for his shot taken in a temple in Angkor, while Vanessa Warren took third place for her photograph taken in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. They win £1,000 and £500 vouchers for photographic equipment respectively.
Our thanks should also go to this year's judges, who were Brian Bell, Insight Guides' Editorial Director, Peter Noble, a Trustee and Council member of the Royal Photographic Society, and Sophie Battersby, Associate Picture Editor of The Independent on Sunday.
News of next year's Travel Photography Competition will be announced here early in 2006.
