My ideal 10-day route is Beijing (3 nights) → Xi'an (3 nights) → Shanghai (3 nights). You experience imperial history and the Great Wall in Beijing, see the Terracotta Warriors and ancient city walls in Xi'an, and finish with modern energy in Shanghai. It’s a perfect historical and cultural progression, easily connected by high-speed trains.

Travelers often ask to adjust the pace to include more free time or to upgrade to boutique courtyard hotels. They also sometimes want to add a specific cooking class or a visit to a local market. I always expect these changes; adjusting the details is exactly how we make the trip perfectly tailored to them.

I love combining Beijing with Xi'an or Shanghai with Suzhou and Hangzhou, thanks to the fast trains. I avoid combining vastly distant regions in one short trip—like pairing Beijing with far-western Xinjiang or Tibet—as the internal flights and altitude changes make the trip too exhausting for a 10-day journey.
