Travelers looking for a personal touch and a sense of discovery will feel at home with my approach. Those seeking only a quick checklist of attractions may not be the best fit.

What do travelers most often change in your first proposal?

Accepted Answer

Usually, travelers fine-tune the pace or adjust the balance between adventure and relaxation. They may add a few extra days in a destination they like, choose a different hotel style, or replace an activity with something more personal. I see the first proposal as a starting point, and I enjoy working with travelers to shape it around their interests, priorities, and the way they want to experience Costa Rica.

Which regions do you love combining and which do you avoid?

I particularly enjoy combining Costa Rica’s Caribbean and Pacific coasts with inland destinations such as Sarapiquí, Arenal, and Monteverde. These combinations allow travelers to experience very different landscapes, cultures, wildlife, and rhythms, while adding a few lesser-visited places along the way. I don’t necessarily avoid any region, but I consider the season, travel time, and each traveler’s interests before deciding what works best.

After more than 25 years designing trips in Costa Rica, I’ve learned that one of the most common mistakes is trying to fit too much into a short trip. I help travelers slow down, choose the right combination of destinations, and allow time to enjoy each place. For me, a well-designed itinerary is not about seeing everything, but about experiencing Costa Rica in a meaningful way.

Three experiences I often recommend are visiting a small local farm and sharing a traditional meal with the family, exploring lesser-known rural communities where you can meet local people and learn about their way of life, and taking time to discover Costa Rica’s smaller towns and markets. These simple encounters often become some of the most memorable parts of a trip.

When do you recommend slowing down and what would that day look like?

I recommend slowing down after a few active days or when the destination itself has something worth enjoying without a schedule. A perfect slow day might mean a relaxed breakfast, a short nature walk or visit to a nearby village, a good local lunch, and the afternoon free to enjoy the surroundings. After 25+ years designing Costa Rica trips, I’ve learned that sometimes the best moments are the unplanned ones.
