What trips do you enjoy planning most?

Accepted Answer

Sicily is probably the destination I most enjoy planning self-drive itineraries for. The
island has an incredible mix of landscapes, history, and food, and every area feels
different from the next. A self-drive trip gives travellers the freedom to explore
beyond the main sights, whether that means spending time in a small inland town,
discovering a local winery, or taking the slower roads between destinations.

What kind of traveler are you the best fit for and who may not be?

Accepted Answer

I work particularly well with travellers who enjoy discovering a destination through
its landscapes, culture, food, and everyday life. They are often comfortable stepping
slightly off the beaten path and are interested in authentic experiences rather than
simply checking off landmarks. While I work with a wide range of travellers, those
looking for a very fast-paced trip focused on seeing as many sights as possible may
not be the best match for my approach.

What’s your ideal 7–10 day route and why?

Accepted Answer

For first-time visitors to Italy, I would usually suggest a route combining Rome,
Florence, and Venice, with a stop in Umbria. It includes some of Italy’s most iconic
destinations while also allowing time to experience a quieter side of the country
through smaller towns and the countryside. For more experienced travellers,
instead, I often recommend a self-drive journey in Sardinia, where the landscapes,
local culture, and slower pace of travel offer a very different perspective on Italy.

What do travelers most often change in your first proposal?

Accepted Answer

If travellers make changes, they are most often related to activities rather than
destinations. I like to include experiences that offer a different perspective on a
place, such as a hot-air balloon ride or an outdoor experience. Some travellers
embrace these suggestions straight away, while others prefer a slower pace, more
free time, or the flexibility to explore independently.

Which regions do you love combining and which do you avoid?

Accepted Answer

I particularly enjoy combining Tuscany and Umbria. They complement each other
well, offering a mix of renowned cultural destinations, countryside landscapes, local
food traditions, and smaller towns that are easy to explore at a relaxed pace. I tend
to recommend the Amalfi Coast less frequently, especially during peak season, as
logistics can be more challenging and the overall travel experience depends heavily
on timing and visitor numbers.

What’s a common first-time visitor mistake and how do you prevent it?

Many first-time visitors underestimate the distances involved and try to fit too much
into one itinerary. Rather than rushing between destinations, I encourage them to
focus on a smaller area of the country. This allows for a more enjoyable pace of
travel and leaves room for the moments that often become the most memorable
part of a trip.

Many visitors miss the charm of Italy’s smaller towns, where local traditions and
everyday life are often easiest to experience. They also underestimate how
rewarding driving can be, with beautiful scenery, great flexibility, and the freedom
to explore beyond the main routes. Finally, visiting iconic sites at sunrise or early in
the morning offers a completely different atmosphere, before the crowds arrive.

When do you recommend slowing down and what would that day look like?

Accepted Answer

After a few busy days of sightseeing, I often suggest taking a step back from
museums and cultural visits. An ideal slow day might include time in a natural
thermal area, surrounded by the countryside, followed by a relaxed afternoon and
an evening excursion ending with dinner and a view. It is often the kind of day that
helps travellers reconnect with the destination rather than simply see more of it.
