The view from the Basilica Del Voto Nacional across Quito, Ecuador 08 Feb 2017
About this photo
Make time for a tour through the Basilica Del Voto Nacional to see breathtaking views across the historical centre of Quito, Ecuador. Walk over a slim plank, supported by wooden roof beams, to climb a near-vertical, one-man-wide, metal staircase, which ends in the bell tower.
Once there, cast your eyes over the first city to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site, all the way to El Panecillo (a 200-metre high hill of volcanic origin) on which stands a madonna statue. Quito is the highest capital city in the world and the closest to the equator. Experience the heights and views for yourself on any of Insight Guides' trips to Ecuador.
