About this photo

The city of Iquique in northwest Chile is sandwiched between the Atacama Desert on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other, making it one of the most popular paragliding areas on earth.

The Atacama Desert is the driest non-polar desert in the world, and as a result, Iquique experiences just one day of rainfall per year! In fact, Iquique and the surrounding area experiences just seven days a year where paragliding is not possible due to high winds or bad weather. The area is also littered with hundreds of sand dunes of various different sizes, which make the perfect starting point for paragliders.
