The plug of an extinct volcano, the weirdly shaped hill of Popa Taung Kalat is the major centre of nat (spirit) worship in Myanmar. At the top lies a gleaming complex of Buddhist and nat shrines, from which a magnificent panorama extends across the plains to the Rakhine hills.
