About this photo

In Patagonia, you’ll find four species of penguin, including the Gentoo, pictured here. Identified by their bright orange-red mandible and a stripe of white above their eyes, they live in small colonies in southern Patagonia.

Your best chance of spotting them is from September through to April within the impressive Tierra Del Fuego National Park, which sprawls across the southern tip of Chile and Argentina, as well as on neighbouring islands.

Add a stop to Insight Guides’ Wild Patagonia holiday for a chance to spot them yourself; browse the full itinerary online now.
