About this photo

The H'mong or Meo ethnic minority originate from the Yellow River region of China. Over time they have spread across the southern mountainous region of China, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand, and now out to the Western world. The ethnic group currently numbers around 800,000 people.

In Vietnam the communities are found in villages in the northern highlands, and their villages are known as Giao. Visit Vietnam on any of Insight Guides' preplanned trips.
