About this photo

The Dubai Creek, also called Khor Dubai, is a saltwater creek that runs through the middle of the city of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. It is believed that the creek once ran as far inland as Al Ain. The creek divides the city in two: Deira and Bur Dubai. The creek has been pivotal in Dubai's history, from bringing the first Bani Yas tribal settlers to this spot back in the 19th century, to helping the fledgeling economy to flourish by attracting dhows from as far afield as India and Africa. The creek's warm and shallow waters are also home to an abundance of fish, which is important to both the local economy and culture.

Discover it for yourself on a luxury dhow cruise on Insight Guides' Magnificent Emirates holiday.
