About this photo

Known for its brightly-painted houses and feisty tango dancers, La Boca is a port side barrio of Buenos Aires in Argentina. The barrio has a strong European feel and atmosphere, with a large population of early settlers from Genoa, Italy.

European as well as African cultures blended to form the Argentinian partner dance and music originally called the tango criollo (Creole tango). The tango now has many variations with the first formation referred to as the authentic tango. Tango dancers pose on El Caminito, the main street of La Boca, waiting for tourists to take photos in exchange for a few pesos. Dance the tango and visit La Boca on Insight Guides’ Argentina: Tango and Glaciers trip.
