About this photo

The sign of the Poon Hill viewpoint in Nepal marks the lookout over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs in the Himalayan mountain range. Massifs are areas of land where the earth's crust contains faults and flexures, creating mountains. If the area moves, it moves as a whole and the internal structure remains the same. The Annapurna range spans 55 kilometres and the Dhaulagiri spans 120 kilometres, their highest peaks are over 8,000 metres. The Kali Gandaki River flows between the two ranges.

Following a one-hour trek up the stone stairs, enjoy your morning coffee from the coffee cart at Poon Hill lookout, with the sun rising over Annapurna and Dhaulagiri on Insight Guides' A Taste of Annapurna trip
