Sand dunes in Liwa, UAE 03 May 2017
About this photo
Red sand mounds in the wind creating dunes throughout the Liwa oasis in the UAE. Liwa was home to the ruling family of the UAE until they move to the current capital, Abu Dhabi, in 1793.
The oasis still houses 50 villages, which are connected to Abu Dhabi by a major road. Inhabitants of Liwa survive on the proceeds of farming dates, a traditional and symbolic fruit of the Middle East. Spend a night in the UAE desert on Insight Guides’ Arabian Family Adventure trip.
