About this photo

Wat Si Chum hosts one of the largest seated Buddha images in Thailand. It is part of the Sukhothai Historical Park in northeast Thailand, which was designated as an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991, and for good reason. Inside the walls of the Old City are the magnificent ruins of 21 temples and monuments, and there are another 70 monuments within a 5km (3-mile) radius of the park. The ruins are divided into five zones – north, south, east, west, and central – and Wat Si Chum is located in the north zone.

Visit more extraordinary temples in north Thailand on Insight Guides' Chiang Mai Sustainable Trail holiday, which also takes in a visit to a night bazaar and a tour of Chiang Mai itself.
