The Atomic Dome, formerly the Hiroshima Industrial Promotion Hall, was destroyed by the first Atomic bomb on the 6th of August 1945 that ultimately killed over 140,000 people. Also known as the Peace Memorial in commemoration of those who died, it was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1996.
