About this photo

Cemoro Lawang village is propped on a protruding ledge at the base of Mount Bromo in East Java, Indonesia. Explorers use this village as a base to tour Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park and as a starting point to climb to the summit of Mount Bromo.

Mount Bromo is one of five active volcanoes that rose out of the caldera of Mount Tengger along with Batok, Kursi, Watangan and Widodaren. The park is also home to the tallest mountain in Java, Mount Semeru, another active volcano, which reaches heights of 3,676-metres. A viewpoint in Cemoro Lawang gives views of Mount Batok and Mount Bromo. Discover what the park has to offer on Insight guides’ Java Discovery Trip.
