Adam's Peak illuminated at night, Sri Lanka 14 Jul 2017
About this photo
Adam's Peak in Sri Lanka's hill country has been an object of worship for centuries, thanks to the impression of a footprint (Sri Pada) on the rock at its summit. Buddhists believe the footprint to be that of Buddha, Hindus believe it to be that of Shiva and Muslims and Christians believe it to be Adam's. Every year from January to April, thousands of pilgrims make their way up the mountain at night, arriving in time for dawn. Add a trek up Adam's Peak to any of Insight Guides' Sri Lanka trips or climb Little Adam's peak on Insight Guides' Sri Lanka for Adventure Lovers trip.
