In China, tourist areas are packed with stalls and markets selling local produce. Typically on offer are ceramics, jade, silk, paintings and traditional clothes. One of the most iconic souvenirs is the paper lantern, made of silk or Vinyl traditionally in a red colour with Chinese symbol decoration.
These lanterns are used throughout Asia at festivals; sky lanterns are freed to float into the night sky for effect during lantern festivals. Visit the Chinese markets on any of Insight Guides' trips to China.
