About this photo

Visit Beijing’s Wangfujing Snack Street (Wangfujing Xioiochi Jie), located in the Dongcheng District, to try over 250 traditional snack foods. West of Wangfujing Street – the city’s main shopping strip – Snack Street is packed with restaurants and street food stalls that sell local delicacies, from the common to the more exotic. Fried scorpions on a stick are among the snacks available, but they are not for the faint hearted, often displayed alive, still wriggling so they can be cooked fresh for whoever is brave enough to order them. The less adventurous can stick to the meat kebabs and candied fruits. Also on offer are fried grasshoppers on sticks, the Chinese take on tripe and Chinese doughnuts. Besides snacks, souvenirs are available in many of the handicraft shops and stalls located along the road. Taste these traditional snacks and more for yourself on Insight Guides' The Best of China trip.
