Looking for some inspiration on where to stay on your next holiday in Oman? Look no further. Here's our selection of the five most lovely luxury hotels on offer in Oman, from Muscat to the majestic Hajar Mountains.

1. The Chedi, Muscat

Ever-popular with the fashion pack, The Chedi is beautifully sleek and modern but still encapsulates the perfect aura of an Arabian palace. Rooms are decked out in crisp white linens with large windows, dark wood accents and sleek furnishings, and naturally, all the mod cons you’d expect from an award-winning hotel, while en-suite bathrooms feature luxurious sunken marble bathtubs. Choose from suites, sea views, Club Rooms or splash out on a villa.

Dining is sublime at The Restaurant but there are more relaxed options too, including the Beach Restaurant, The Arabian Courtyard, Lobby Lounge and pool cabanas. For relaxation, head to the spa or take a dip in one of the pools (family or adult-only), lounge on the beach – it’s on your doorstep, or soak up those desert star-studded skies in the Shisha Lounge.

For ultimate pampering and excellent service, the Chedi is hard to beat. Insight Guides local expert for Oman can include The Chedi on your trip itinerary: get in touch now

2. Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort And Spa

The sprawling Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah resort encompasses three hotels in one stunning setting overlooking the sea of Oman. The resort offers a village vibe and features a total of 680 rooms with exceptional sea views and private balconies or terraces. Stay in family-friendly Al Waha, an oasis where there are several pools surrounded by palm trees or opt for traditional Al Bandar. Al Bandar meaning ‘town’ is heavily inspired by Muscat Old Town and is the heart of the resort. Alternatively, Al Husn is the adult-only six-star option. It has its own private beach and pool, as well as a helipad.

Throughout the resort there are a dozen restaurants, from authentic Arabic cuisine in Shahrazad and Al Tanoor, child-friendly fare at Surf Café, great seafood at beachside Bait al Bahr, to Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese dishes at Asia. The village theme is completed by an attractive promenade and designer shops, the lovely Chi Spa, the beach, pools and myriad activities on offer from scuba diving to snorkelling, sea kayaking and dolphin trips.

3. Six Senses Zighy Bay

Come to Six Senses Zighy Bay for exclusive, laid-back luxury in your own private stone villa. The theme here is sustainability and nature at its finest and the resort achieves this superbly. Bordered on one side by a private white-sand beach and marina and dramatic mountain scenery on the other, the hotel sits on the Musandam Peninsula, separated from the rest of Oman by the United Arab Emirates. Built to mimic a traditional Omani village, each villa has been made with local materials and features white-washed stone walls with cosy thatched ceilings, a private pool and enclosed terrace. For dining, there's a choice of restaurants, including its signature mountain-top restaurant, relaxed Summer House and Zighy Bar. Daytime adventurers can enjoy PADI diving courses, kayaking, paragliding and mountain treks. Afterwards, soothe tired muscles in the sanctuary of the spa.
