Five films located in Thailand

Ever found yourself eyeing up the glorious locations in a movie and wishing you could be there yourself? We can help!

Over the last year, film critic and blogger Scott Jordan Harris has been exploring the best film and TV locations from cities and countries across the world, from chic Scandi political dramas to US road movie icons to James Bond islands in Thailand.

London

Richard Curtis' London film locations

As it happens, Insight Guides' London HQ is just down the road from Bridget Jones's flat because, in the world of London according to Richard Curtis, Bridget lives above the Globe Tavern, slap bang in the middle of foodie haven Borough Market. London also plays a starring role in Notting Hill, Love Actually and Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Thailand

Only God Forgives was one of the stranger films of 2013, with a dark and claustrophobic portrayal of the Bangkok underworld, in which a creepy karaoke-singing sword-wielding Thai cop delivers retributive justice to Ryan Gosling's drug-smuggling family. On a lighter note, Scott also looks at luxurious locations to visit in Thailand from the likes of The Hangover Part II, The Beach and The Man With The Golden Gun. Read more...

USA

Christmas is fast approaching and for many Brits that means turkey dinners and movie-watching, while many Americans have already done their turkey dinners and movie-watching during Thanksgiving in November. Staple Thanksgiving films include Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Woody Allen's Hannah and her Sisters.

Also in the US, Scott travels the highways and byways of road-movie classics, such as Easy Rider, National Lampoon's Vacation and Thelma and Louise. Read more...

Ireland

One wonders how many DVD box sets of Breaking Bad will be received this Christmas, but earlier in the year everyone was talking about epic fantasy TV series Game of Thrones. It proved so popular that the Northern Irish Tourist Board were running themed tours of Game of Thrones locations in Northern Ireland. Scott's overview of movie destinations in Ireland also takes in Braveheart (yes!), Ryan's Daughter and The Commitments

Scandinavia

Scandinavia has a big presence on the big and small screens that is attracting more and more visitors to the places featured in productions as varied as The Empire Strikes Back and The Killing. From glaciers to palaces to tattoo parlours, Scott explores the best film locations to visit in Norway, Sweden and Denmark...
